12) HIPPY SHAKE

James Bond themes are iconic and legendary. There's some great ones.  A few flops. I think a lot of songwriters attempt their version of Goldfinger as a fun and hopefully fruitful exercise. I know Billie Eilish did growing up. Every five years or so I revisit Bond themes. Really dig the Jack White and Alicia Keys one 'Another Way To Die.' Envious of the drum beat. I like the Duran Duran and McCartney onez. There's a pretty wild one that got rejected for Spectrum on YouTube by Radiohead. I love the fact that Tina Turner did one, if for no other reason than a trophy for her case. I remember when I was a kid, 4th grade, I listened to top 40 radio every night when I went to sleep. You'd hear 'She Loves You ' next to Louis Armstrong's 'Hello Dolly' next to 'Pretty Woman ' and then.... GOLDFINGER! That song scared the shit out of me as a kid. I think I had heard the rumor of the dead woman painted gold. And Shirley Bassey is so shreikingly over the top she makes Ann Margaret in Viva Las Vegas look dead. But man, as a songwriter it would be cool to try and achieve that kinda drama. I don't remember any other song scaring me like that. 'Big Bad John' by Jimmy Dean was a little unsettling with the strong quiet guy getting crushed to death in a coal mine. I envisioned nothing but blood and bones and gaseous fumes. That certainly made you reflect in bed at night as a kid. That Drifters's song 'On Broadway ' was just sad cuz that guy was gonna be homeless and probably ass fucked by a cop, although I didn't know that in fourth grade. But I sensed trouble. It's a fine line between crap and art when it comes to pretentiousness. Ask Nick Cave. 'Leader of the Pack' by The Shangri -La's was dark. She meets him in the candy store. Two minutes and fifty one seconds later his brains are in her lap. Talk about a song that projected a movie on your brain's wall. The production by Shadow Morton is higher math. This is why David Johansen wanted Morton to produce The Dolls. But still, none of those evocative masterpieces could instill fear in me like Goldfinger.

All of this has very little to do with my song however. I've inhaled too much marijuana and I've gone off on a passionate tangent. The link to James Bond is the riff. That was my attempt at a Bond style phrase. I just loved playing that riff. Loop it. Listen. Can't you see Daniel Craig's muscular leg straining the seams of a thousand dollar pair of slacks as he pivots between burning oil cans in some middle Eastern desert to vault up to the chopper that's hovering above, M at the helm as he scurries up the rope ladder to board and reload his pistol? I can.

Yeah yeah I played everything and Matt made sense of it as usual. Am I doubling the riff on the piano too? Yes, I am. Am I proud of that fact? Yes, I am. Can I play the piano? No, I can't. Do I WANT to play the piano? Yes, desperately. Have I TRIED to play the piano? Yes. Futilely. See Trail Mix for further information.

lyrics

You got to do the hippy shake, don't know how much more you can take. You lie in bed instead your head is burning and it's keeping you awake.
( You got to know it, got to go it, got to show )

The evil dreams, that everything ain't what it seems. The quiet in the hills gives you to chills, you know exactly what that means
( You long for yesterday, now the devil's come to play. You lust for gravity, thrust into a cavity.)

(CHORUS #1)
They got the creepy crawly worms inside their head they holler
This ain't no metaphor you met before bet your last dollar
The DNA has gone astray and yesterday the father creeped into and peeped into your head and said "It ain't no bother" (2x)

(CHORUS #2)
Line up, I don't have all the details
I think it best that you exhale
They made a mess of it all
Name check, I've got my bags and my passport
   Things I didn't ask for
     I'm gonna take......hit it

You gotta do the hippy shake, you sense the shadows on the make
Best be ready Freddy, steady with the heavy, these plans you undertake.
( You got to know it, got to go it, got to show it and)

( CHORUS #3)
They got the Karma drama proddin' all their trauma maybe
They got the mystery history wishing' they be fushin' baby
They got the rootin' tootin' shootin' while they're lootin'
They be hangin' with their friends, that's when the happy ends. ( 2x)

( CHORUS #2)
