  • Hamell not only records music, performs live, does independent writing, he also paints. All of the images below, and many you see as the accompanying artwork on the digital releases, are Hamell paintings. These vary in size and price, but are all acrylic on canvas. Hamell paints scenes inspired by the 'underground' and 'disenfranchised' of our society. Ed uses bold and bright colors in his paintings which contrast the darker subject matter, championing the underclass, drawing you into the characters he depicts, endearing you to them and sparking emotions one might not anticipate.Hamell is also available for specific painting commissions. about

I did almost die in a car accident. I was forced off the road and the car flipped over twice. I must have just passed out for like 30 seconds and when I woke up I had a lap full of blood and couldn't seem to move very well. This was like noon on my way, of course, to a gig. I rarely travel during the day, too much traffic, and at night, when most of the traffic is truckers they are experienced considerate drivers. Luckily a nurse who was vacationing was riding behind and stopped and soon they had a helicopter there to cut me from the car, (the jaws of life) and fly me to intensive care. I could move my feet so they knew I'd walk again, I had broken my wrist and ankle and three vertebrae and had 72 staples in my head. Got home from the hospital a week later and in my upper body brace and casts got my guitar and wrote this song. My ode to narcotics.

lyrics

Almost died in a car accident, they cut me from the wreck, flew me to hospital with a brace around my neck. Said I would relearn to walk, my wife sat there and cried, and I thanked God for what I had and what they did prescribe:
Downs: Morphine, Seconal, Percodan, Codeine.
downs, pleasure seeing you around.
A stiff upper lip when they got you on the drip: Downs.

Been 12 years since I've been high, just like riding a bike. Ain't it cool when the sky lights up, when you're doing stuff you like? Mister Pain don't bother me and Mister Money Man, I'll be back to face you both as slowly as I can.

(Repeat Chorus)
add:
Having a ball with the Demerol, Downs.
I can't think of a word to rhyme with Valium, Downs.
