Hamell not only records music, performs live, does independent writing, he also paints. All of the images below, and many you see as the accompanying artwork on the digital releases, are Hamell paintings. These vary in size and price, but are all acrylic on canvas. Hamell paints scenes inspired by the 'underground' and 'disenfranchised' of our society. Ed uses bold and bright colors in his paintings which contrast the darker subject matter, championing the underclass, drawing you into the characters he depicts, endearing you to them and sparking emotions one might not anticipate.Hamell is also available for specific painting commissions. about
Joe 'The Butcher' Nicolo had a lot to do with this one. We went more for a loop and drum machine vibe. I had the idea for the song, I was kinda recording a lot of this kinda stuff in my basement anyway, I had a drum machine and a sampler so it was all technology that was pretty familiar to me. It's funny, with a lot of these songs, particularly as I had no intention of getting a band EVER nor was I ever going to supplement my sound with a drum machine or loops or anything pre-recorded EVER you'd think I would have recorded this more stripped down yet while listening to this for this release I thought to myself, "Should have had female singers", so what the fuck do I know? Now that I think about it, it should have been me and JUST female singers...there we go...picture that...you'll hear that from me on some other tune in the future.
lyrics
Down in the schoolyard, leather tough and looking hard, man I got to get me a gun....
Down in the car park, I ain't walking after dark, man I got to get me a gun....
There in the work place, I don't dig the bosses face, man I got to get me a gun,
There in the subway station, where's my token confrontation? Man I got to get me a gun!
Mr. Fear...comin' round here...
Tricky and the T.V. ways, cloud your mind with what he says, man I got to get me a gun...
Dealin' lies and dealin' hate, low common denominate, man I got to get me a gun...
load up and you're double girth, lose the feeling you've no worth, man I got to get me a gun...
Mr. Fear and his designs keep on workin' overtime, man I got to get me a gun...
Look into the mirror, surly there's a fear there pushing and whsiperin' it's lies and deceit it's gonna cheat you of your dignity blind you to humanity, in your lonely hour it will shower you with talk of power, where does it lie? In a book? In your mind? with the ability to rise from where your life's defined...well no you say, take up the coward's way, it is a gun and I'm embarrassed to say that anyone can fall prey...
Mr.Fear when you come here, Mr.Fear I'm ashamed...

I love the Jordan Lake Sessions albums, they're so ALIVE! I'm excited to listen to these versions of my favorite songs forever and ever, and always max out my Mazda's speakers on the sax parts. grenadinegrace
