Hamell paints scenes inspired by the 'underground' and 'disenfranchised' of our society. Ed uses bold and bright colors in his paintings which contrast the darker subject matter, championing the underclass, drawing you into the characters he depicts, endearing you to them and sparking emotions one might not anticipate.Hamell is also available for specific painting commissions. There was this diner down at the corner when I owned a house in Middletown, NY. During the Iraq invasion, through all that bullshit with Bush in a military flight jacket smiling with his 'Mission Accomplished' banner proudly waving behind him, while Cheney and Karl Rove were shifting the wealth and creating the 1%, essentially destroying the middle class in this country, this diner, Maddys, kept putting up more and more red white and blue patriotic bullshit outside to decorate. The whole town was dumber than a bunch of fucking rocks and this personified it. The food sucked too. Wammo and I did this over the phone. He had to explain to me the difference between West Texas and East Texas accents...who knew?
